Job Description: Transport Controller
Overall, Role Objectives
Provides administrative and financial services to be able to ensure that an effective, accurate, administrative, and effective operation is achieved.
Communication Skills
Provide excellent communication to all Customers, Suppliers and Management of Employer
Ensure that all transporters are contacted and kept updated with regards to progress and delivery changes.
Ensure that all relevant and correct documentation is handed to the transporter prior to each upliftment
Ensure the pre-departure and debriefing of transporters for any special requirements of the client.
Respond to telephone calls regarding breakdowns, accidents, and delays.
Liaise with loading and offloading sites with regards to any delays that you may be faced with.
Use personal judgment and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles.
Ensure that Transporters are contacted and kept updated with regards to their progress and delivery changes.
Keep your manager always updated with regards to progress or delays with regards to any deliveries.
Customer Service
Working with Customers, planning routes and scheduling delivery and always meeting and exceeding Customers expectations.
Build and maintain relationships with key customers, both internal and external.
All other actions required for successful delivery to clients.
Assist with queries relating to your shipments.
Will be working every alternate weekend and when required as per operational demands.
Transport Procedures
Daily planning, routing and scheduling of vehicles
Ensuring all cargo uplifted from the Port within the allocated timeframe and turned in on time avoid demurrage/storage charges
Ensure that all transporters are contacted and kept updated with regards to their progress and delivery changes
Ensure that all relevant and correct documentation is handed to the transporter prior to each upliftment
Ensure the pre-departure and debriefing of transporters for any special requirements of the client
Escalate any issues which cannot be resolved to management, advising whether any pending claims so that management may action accordingly.
Ensuring all loads are adequately insured and high value loads monitored from loading to delivery
Adhering to booking slots for direct deliveries
Understand the cargo loading and dispatch procedures.
Understand the requirements and working procedures
Documentation procedures
Daily receiving and processing of transport and purchase orders.
Ensure that all drivers hand in all relevant documentation pertaining to their respective deliveries i.e., DN/PODs.
Ensure all PODs are scrutinised for any damages or deliveries not done.
Required Specific Knowledge, Skills & Tools
Analytical thinker with mathematical abilities.
Excellent organisation skills required to manage tight deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently and coordinate with other departments of the organisation

Requirements.
• Matric certificate
• 3 years’ experience in transport industry
• Knowledge of transport systems
- Navis booking experience
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- mature and sober personality
Fixed term contract employment. Position will be rotational shifts (night shift and day shift).
Start date: Immediately
